Ovum/Embryo Cryopreservation – Ovum/Embryo Cryopreservation – Our lab offers cryopreservation technology to patients who are opting to freeze embryos or whose circumstances call for embryo freezing. Once fertilized in our lab, embryos are frozen using the vitrification method either 3 or 5 after retrieval and then stored in liquid nitrogen.

Embryo cryopreservation is a great option for patients who have enough embryos fertilized from an IVF retrieval that not all embryos will be transferred back into the patient at one time. By freezing the additional embryos, this enables the patient to use the stored embryos at another time, either after the patient gives birth or in the event that the patient does not become pregnant after transfer. This will save on the cost and stress of potentially having to undergo another IVF retrieval in the future.

Cryopreservation of embryos may be necessary in a number of other instances when the uterus is not yet prepared for transfer, or when a patient experiences Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrom after an IVF retrieval.
